George Washington's Birthday Special Event Station
Help us celebrate our first president's birthday. Our annual George Washington Special Event will take place on Feb. 17 (Sat) & 18 (Sun), 2024. The event will be in the greenhouse of the Mount Vernon Estate.
This free event is open to the public, especially those interested in the art of Ham radio! Stop by if you want to learn more about radios and we'll even let you get on the air and talk to people from around the world!

Details:
On Saturday: MVARC members will first arrive about 8:30AM to set up stations. The stations will likely be operational by 10AM. Anyone and everyone will be permitted to get on the air, as we will use the club’s call, K4US. We would love to put little kids on the air too! On Saturday, we will operate until about 3PM (as we must be off grounds by 4PM). For a variety of reasons, Saturday is the BEST day for newbies and guests to sample ham radio! The club will leave the antennas up overnight for the next day.
On Sunday: A few members will straggle in about 8:30AM to make a few more contacts. Likely, members will start to take down stations about 11AM.

MVARC Holiday PotLuck
The MVARC holiday potluck will be held Friday, Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge, 8717 Fort Hunt Rd, Alexandria, VA 22308.
We had approx. 15-20 people say they were interested in attending. Even if you didn't RSVP earlier, feel free to attend. But please plan on bringing something. It doesn't have to be homemade!

MVARC Field Day 2023
Interested in Ham radio? During field day anyone can get on the air! Head over to Pohick Bay Regional Park and meet the members of MVARC and find out more about our hobby.

Near Sites 111-112 (by the open field)
When:
Saturday, June 24th 2 p.m. – Sunday, June 25th, 10:00 a.m.
Saturday: Setup anytime after 9:00 a.m. Field Day operating begins at 2:00 p.m. Potluck picnic at 5:30 p.m.
Check out is 11:00 a.m.
Notes:
Entry into the park is free for those living in Arlington, Fairfax and Loudon Counties and the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church. Others pay $8 per vehicle. (So if you are not from one of the listed counties/cities, you may want to ride with someone who is.)
For potluck picnic on Saturday, BBQ meat and sides will be provided. Please bring a side/dessert/something tasty to share if you wish.
There are no commercial power hookups available at the campground.
No alcohol is allowed per the park rules.
There are a few picnic tables with benches, but everyone is encouraged to bring chairs/table/shelter etc. for radioing.
This event is open to the public, not just MVARC members or ham radio operators. Come join us!

MVARC Masonic Lodges on the Air
The idea for the Masonic Lodges on the Air Contest grew out of the realization that many Freemasons have a love for Amateur Radio.
Inspired by what the folks over at the Portage County Radio Club did with the Ohio State Parks on the Air, the Fulton County Amateur Radio Club crafted an idea to start a new contest to see how many Masonic Lodges we might be able to contact in a day. They first thought it would be limited to Ohio, but why stop there?
2021 was the first year for the event. This year, MVARC has been invited by the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge to help host the event at their location. We're excited to welcome the public to come see what amateur radio is all about.
